PIRATES BIGHT AT NORMAN ISLAND REOPENS AFTER “MAKE OVER”
Renovation project led by world-renowned architect transforms the famed beach bar into a world-class destination for food and drinks, sand and sun

Dec 6, 2012 Norman Island, BVI: The management of Norman Islands announced today the reopening of Pirates Bight at Norman Island following the completion of a much-anticipated renovation of the world famous beach bar and restaurant.
Pirates Bight sits on the hauntingly beautiful Norman Island, which is said to be the inspiration for Robert Lewis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” The restaurant and bar opened in 2002 and has since become a destination of choice for the sailors and visitors who flock year-round to the British Virgin Islands for its renowned sunshine, seas and beaches. The bar and restaurant earned its reputation as a family place of relaxed afternoons, legendary parties into the night, and the famous cannon shot at happy hour each night.

Now, when the yachts, sailboats and other vessels arrive at this historic spot, they will find a transformed destination.
Led by Lane Pettigrew, described by Architectural Digest as “the Caribbean’s architect laureate,” a team of designers, construction crews from Meridian Construction and hospitality experts reimagined and rebuilt the Pirate Bight experience.
Commenting on the project, Mr. Pettigrew said “Our goal was to take the very best of the trendy beach destinations of South Beach or Rio de Janeiro and combine it with the unique charm of the Caribbean. The result is a modern beach-lounge experience with all the comforts and amenities of a first class resort, but with that hint of mystery.”

A revamped food menu will include fresh takes on Caribbean classics like fried conch and barbequed ribs, while also extending into freshly caught local fish and locally sourced produce.

While much has changed, the spirit of fun and adventure remain at the heart of the experience. “The rum drinks aren’t going anywhere. Only now, they’ll be served with locally sourced fresh fruit juices, mixed by friendly mixologists. We’re giving the beloved BVI beach-dive a 21st century makeover and the result is something totally new and endlessly exciting.”

Pirates Bight’s grand re-opening party on Sunday, December 9th is set to be an experience not to miss. The event, appropriate for all ages and families, will feature a local band, DJ, pig roast, buffet and a fashion show.  Round-trip transportation from Road Town will be provided by Speedy’s Ferry (11:30am, return 6pm; $10).
